As promised when we discussed growing your email list through a lead magnet, your favorite digital marketing gurus are back with more insider tips on ways to grow your email list and website visitors with subscribers who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer.
Usually, when you hear the term “co-opting a brand,” you probably breathe a sigh of sadness for the creator or company whose content and audience were taken, but we’re here now to discuss how mutually co-opting another’s audience can be beneficial for you both in your endeavor to create a larger reach and drive traffic to your business’s Facebook, website, and build your email list.
Any 80s aficionado can tell you that Rob Base knew what he was talking about when he told us it takes two to make a thing go right, and we are here to affirm that, as well, and we’re here to make it easy for you to reach potential customers through existing points of contact.
You see, we know that good strong marketers and professionals are often in equally good company, and there are ways to use that to your advantage because you both have much to gain by teaming up together.
Other contacts and businesses most definitely focus their target on your audience of potential customers and existing subscribers, so it only makes sense to do the same. Why not join forces and allow a lateral or competing contact to share your marketing content and message with their audience in a sure-fire attempt to grow your email list? Yeah, we can’t think of a single reason, either.
Let’s dive into a few ways that a partnership or collaboration can entice people to join your mailing list and become part of your success through list growth.
Co-Content Marketing
You’ve made plenty of connections and are part of myriad professional organizations, so the act of finding an evenly-matched partner who shares the same or similar audience as you do is half the battle that you’ve already won! Way to go!
So, how can you link up with those connections to reach new customers and get people to subscribe to your email list? Let’s take a look at a few ways.
White Papers, Newsletters, and Blog Posts – Oh, My!
Hopping on to another marketer’s or professional’s newsletter or blog post is an optimal way to get people to sign up to join your email list, as you know for sure that they’ve already been willing to enter their email address to receive the very newsletter or blog post on which you’re flexing your professional prowess.
Creating a link to landing pages to accompany your written piece is sure to bring in those email addresses we all so desperately want to have, and it’s a great way to establish your authority with a call to action that will make them flock to your website or Facebook page to seek out that sign-up form.
You can likely repurpose existing collateral you’ve created in the past and make it shine with a little content upgrade in another’s space. I mean… could it be an easier? We don’t think so, but we can offer even more easy ways to garner new email subscribers.
Guest Appearances on Podcasts and Webinars
We are probably in good company when we say we did that head-tilting-huh face the first time we heard the term “podcast” used years ago. Today, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t acutely aware of what podcasts are and the incredible reach they have. In fact, in 2021, “the number of monthly US podcast listeners will increase by 10.1% year-over-year (YoY) to 117.8 million,” and those stats are growing outside of the US, as well.
While not everyone has the desire or technical ability to produce a recurring podcast, you can probably throw a stone and hit a business contact who does just that, and it’s a perfect way you can chime in on episodes and guest posts. And, just like magic, that audience converts to your new list of email subscribers.
Voilà! You just spread the word on your service offerings and drove traffic to your website and social media pages by talking about what you know with whom you know.
In our best Chandler Bing voice: COULD. IT BEEEE. ANY EASIER? Well, maybe, because we have another suggestion for you on ways to grow your email list–webinars!
2020 taught us many lessons on marketing from a distance, one of which is the reaching power of webinars, and 83% of marketers understand that form of lead generation.
Inviting a business contact to team up and take part in a webinar or accepting an invitation to speak on someone else’s webinar instantly puts you in front of an audience to which you’d not had access in the past. Heck, even being a moderator on a panel in an online forum grabs hold of potential customers’ ears and eyes… at zero cost to you. Wow!
Webinars are usually gated, too, which means what?… Any potential customers will have to hit your landing page’s sign up form to access that content in exchange for their email address, allowing you to grow your email list with minimal effort and cost.
Still not convinced webinars can grow your email list? Think about our 2021 lives for a moment, and you can see what makes webinars a strong lead magnet for potential customers.
We live in a time when we literally survive through remote access and Google searches. Most webinars are recorded and live online in perpetuity for your potential customers to access at will. Unlike paid-for content like Facebook ads, those webinar guest posts are forever and will drive traffic to your website and sign-up forms to enter their email address as long as Google still exists. Boom! You just grew your email list without even thinking about it.
As times continue to change and we all still feel the lingering effects of a pandemic with no end in sight, it’s abundantly clear that online marketing is here for the long haul. We, in marketing, are forced to be more creative, and we don’t always have all the answers. Fortunately, a strong network can offer many opportunities to team up to gain new subscribers, and you’re doing yourself (and your bottom line) a great disservice if you’re not actively engaging in online guest posts in some form.
